About The Event
The balance between sun and moon has fascinated and inspired composers and poets from the Renaissance to the present day. In Equinox, Granta Chorale perform a constellation of choral gems themed around the interplay between darkness and light, all in the stunning setting of Corpus Christi College Chapel.
The tender simplicity of Wilbye’s Draw on Sweet Night balances the lush harmonies of John Rutter’s madrigal of the same text - while MacMillian’s O Radiant Dawn sits in symmetry with Tallis’s O Nata Lux. William Walton’s thrilling but rarely performed Cantico del Sole (Canticle of the Sun) sets the words of St Francis of Assisi, and Monteverdi provides a song to the stars with Sfogava con le Stelle.
Enjoy sumptuous contemporary compositions by Ben Parry, Rene Clausen and Alec Roth, whose delicious harmonies hang beautifully in the air to complete this heavenly feast before the programme draws to a close with the timeless melodies of Moon River and Night and Day.
