About The Event

Britten's Ceremony of Carols forms the centrepiece of a programme which brings together favourite carols for audience participation with newly written festive music. Full of tongue-twisters, evocative incantations and harp glissandi, this piece - composed on a ship crossing from the USA to England in April 1942 - has become one of Britten's most well-known, and well-loved, works, by turns ecstatic, declamatory, gently rocking, icy, and full of wonder.

Joined by harpist Bonnie Scott and organist James Potter, Granta premiere four new works and there will be plenty of traditional carols to sing along with, plus a dusting of Winter Wonderland!

Doors will open at 6:30 pm, and the bar will have mulled wine and mince pies before the concert and during the half hour interval.

There will be a retiring collecting for Jimmy’s, a community-based charity providing both support and housing to people who are rough sleeping.
