The Granta Chorale

A Little Night Music - Thursday 24 April at 8pm

A large audience at Great Chesterford Church enjoyed a concert given by The Granta Chorale and their musical director, Janet Wheeler. The programme ‘Night Voices’ evoked the enchantment of nightfall in words and music and included pieces by Dowland, Brahms and Monteverdi as well as by several modern composers. The singing of Saint Saens ‘Calme des Nuits’ and Eric Whitacre’s ‘Water Night’ was especially appreciated for it’s tranquil beauty, as was the playing of Debussy’s ‘Clair de Lune’ by pianist Richard Carr. The programme also included favourites ‘A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square’ and ‘Moon River’, and a delightful performance of Christopher Robin’s ‘Vespers’ by Diana Hoy, as well as prose and poetry by Shakespeare, D H Lawrence and Dylan Thomas read by Neil Marshall.
